Why did you choose the Oak Glasshouse Company?
In total, we met with three companies, each of which came in a similar cost-wise. However, we liked Jim’s ideas, and when presented with the final design, it was evident he listened more to what we wanted. It also came across that our project mattered to The Oak Glasshouse Company.
What were your reasons for the new building?
We live in a repurposed industrial building (previously a water mill). The previous structure was an old-style uPVC conservatory that looked tired, detached from our home, and for large parts of the year, too hot or too cold to spend any time in.
The previous purpose of our home means many of the rooms are underground, and during the original construction, no real consideration was given to lighting. Consequently, the building is relatively dark. We wanted something livable that would allow for natural light.
Had you already decided on the type of building?
To a degree, yes; in our mind’s eye, we wanted floor-to-ceiling glass and, if possible, to maintain and utilise some of the mill’s original structure. Jim and his team achieved this as part of an original wall feature in the new building.
Do you have a favourite feature?
Yes, the Bi-fold doors and the overall floor-to-ceiling glass, when fully extended, serve to open the building up and create the illusion of bringing the outside in.
Your overall impression of The Oak Glasshouse Company?
Throughout the build, The Oak Glasshouse Company consistently demonstrated excellent communication and a willingness to go the extra mile, given the building’s previously industrial nature. Jim and his team uncovered several minor issues, all of which were solved without fuss or additional costs.
They helped us find good quality reputable tradespeople for heating installation, etc, and even helped us fix a couple of issues, a couple of which we believe were entirely outside the project remit.
