This building was designed to extend the existing house and provide a large open-plan space.
The main section of the building was 5m x 10m, with the link being 7m x 1.5m. The prominent focus is to let in ample light and views over their garden. The client had said before that they had never had a room in any house that was large enough to have the whole family together at Christmas.
Although a sensitive area, the planning process went very well.
The flat roof link of the building made a clear definition between the original house and the oak extension, satisfying the planners. Input from the customer resulted in larger glass panels than normal. Rendering on some walls and some curved parts in the frame that would normally be straight oak.
